The Centre for Young Lives is seeking an experienced Policy Research Consultant to provide flexible consultancy support across a number of high-profile projects focused on improving outcomes for children and young people.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a small, ambitious and influential team driving change on some of the most pressing issues facing young people today.

The role

The consultant will provide additional research capacity across a range of projects, including:

• Conducting qualitative and quantitative research and analysis.

• Supporting evidence reviews, literature reviews and policy analysis.

• Managing and analysing datasets, survey findings and Freedom of Information returns.

• Supporting stakeholder interviews, workshops and focus groups.

• Drafting research reports, briefings and policy papers.

• Preparing presentations and communications materials to support publication and dissemination.

• Contributing to project management and delivery across multiple workstreams.

• Supporting the development of policy recommendations and evidence-based solutions.

About you

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

• Strong research and analytical skills, including experience working with quantitative and qualitative data.

• Experience of delivering research projects from inception through to publication.

• Excellent written communication skills and the ability to produce high-quality reports and briefings.

• An understanding of the policy landscape relating to children, young people, education, health, youth services or local government.

• The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

• Experience of working with public datasets, survey data and/or Freedom of Information requests would be advantageous.

Contract

• Freelance consultancy basis.

• Flexible working arrangements.

• Day rate dependent on experience.

• Work available from October 2026 – December 2026 with possibility of extension.
